There will be a slight drone (a hum) at certain RPM's. Mine occurs at 40mph and is more evident with the windows down.
That's interesting, i had a lot of drone hum noise most noticable between 35-40 mph, and tore the whole front end apart and replaced bearings, seals, lubed her all up and the majority of the noise went away but i still have a hum and drone at that same speed. It must be my 6637 setup. Anyone knows what causes this drone? Is is just engine noise being resonated through the filter?
I ran a 6637 for awhile & got tired of the vacuum cleaner sound under the hood while towing. However I was happy to know that I was getting much better filtration. A great filter with good flow but I also didn't like it being exposed. Love my AIS but probably a little less flow than the 6637. Whatever you do, get that stock airbox off of there!
When I looked for pros and cons before installation, all I could find were pros. Sorry if this post is very cut and dry, but these are my observations w/o any embellishing or bs.

You guys know, you're all probably getting put on the basher list as we speak.

I didn't have any hum at those speeds before the 6637 installation. Exactly from 35 to 40mph. Just over 40mph it'll go away. I notice it a lot more with the windows down. Do you have a manual transmission? I've read the drone is caused by the lack of an air box for the filter to be enclosed in. Some folks have fabbed up their own air boxes.
Definitely the biggest cons are the noises. Nothing else I can think of. I personally like the noises, so they're not a "con" to me. To some, it is. I have a perfect amount of whistle right now. That's with the van turbo, 4" MBRP exhaust with straight-through muffler, ATS housing, stock wheel, peeled IC tube, and 6637. I could get more whistle with the WW, but I like SOME whistle. Not a PowerStroke Banshee.
Alex --> I've been following your thread. That has got to be one of the best pics ever posted on FTE. Can't wait to read your post when you have it running again! Keep after it man!!

Thanks a lot Joe, that means a ton. Its amazing to think that this could actually work out! If it does, I hope to make it to the West Coast RRD Tech day. Words of encouragement are always appreciated.

Trust me when I say I am going to have my family chip in and get me one for birthday/Christmas. Even if I never hit a puddle again, I need the snorkel based on this experience.
I can think of trwo cons: One is the consistency of the ID of the 6637 filter inlet. Maybe it is just me getting a "COUPLE" (couple = two) of out of tolerance filters, but I have had that problem. I have been getting my filters from fleet filter, not that has any real bearing on my situation.
The second is it also seems that I have to be very vigilant about making sure the clamps on the filter/tube are tight for about the first 400-500 miles after a filter change. After that no big deal though.
Other than the 6637 mod I'm a stock 7.3L super crew 6spd.
Power-wise I have not seen a degradation in power as Mechelement reports. In fact, over the Labor Day weekend I pulled my 91 Wrangler with all the goodies for fourwheeling over Grand Mesa near my home. It is a 10,500+ pass with a 6+% (sometimes 9% grade in some spots) as fast as I wanted to go. The only thing slowing me down wwew curves in the road, after all our 4wd PSD's are not Ferraris. Granted my jeep only weighs around 3500 pounds loaded with gear including camping gear in the bed, and no where near the 20,000 -30,000 a lot of you guys routinely pull. I guess it always amazes me when I flat tow one of our jeeps how much power is waiting to be utilized.

I'd do the mod again without hesitation.
The neck of the 6637 is a relatively soft material. After being clamped under the intake tube, it will shrink some. I had mine like that for a while, but after experiencing it loosening over time, I decided to put a piece of 4" OD exhaust pipe between the intake tube & 6637. No more worries about it coming loose.
