Newbie dso question
I have a (new to me) 1967 Mercury 250 4x4. I'm trying to line up the vin and dso with what the truck actually is.
So far everything is pretty logical, except for the dso number. The dso # is A78066. I can't find a reference for A7 anyplace.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
darrell
I would really like to know (if only to satisfy my morbid curiousity!)
I'm guessing that the first 2 characters are different due to it's canadian heritage...

A7 = Ford of Canada - Pacific District.
-------------------------------------
Other "Ford of Canada" examples:
A1 = Central District
A2 = Eastern District
A3 = Atlantic District
A4 = Midwestern District
A6 = Western District.
There is no A5.

What does 8066 refer to?
This is the Domestic Special Order number.
The truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
If not a special order, the DSO code would just be A7.
Based on other posts I've seen I had a thought that you might be the man with the answers! Thanks! ;~)
So, I'm feeling pretty comfortable that I have a 'real' 1967 Mercury 250 4x4 rather than a clone. I had some doubts, since it's a 67, with a 68 cab (based on the heater controls).
I was also under the impression that a Mercury truck would have a vin starting with M rather than F, but a local guy (Victoria BC) I bumped into thought that only the 'big' mercury's got an M vin, the f100 and f250's got a vin starting with F.
Does anyone know if there's a ford website that archives the build sheets (based on the dso number)? I found a link in one post, but maybe I'm just not that smart, since it didn't seem to be relevant to the older trucks.
Thanks again!

In the late 1980's, Ford was gonna throw all this info into the trash. Marti, a Mustang nut from Phoenix AZ, found out about it...and got it all.
Today, the build sheet, duplicate copy of the original window sticker and etc is known as a Marti Report.
He may have the info for 1967, he may not have. AFAIK, nothing is available prior to 1967.
Marti charges a fee for this service. The fee varies, it all depends on how much info you want.
btw: Since Ford has none of this info any longer...when ppl contact Ford and ask about their vehicle...Ford has to get it from Marti.
I sent you a pm. Here's a pic of my build sheet from Ford:

Hope that helps,
John
PS even though my truck is a Mercury, the vin starts with an F...

What 1967 Ford or Mercury truck was available with a 360 engine?
N-O-N-E = NONE!
The 360 engine was not available until September 1967...when the 1968 models were introduced.
1967: Y = 352 2V.
The bucket seats were only offered on Rangers.
Where is there any reference in that letter that says it's a Ranger?
If the truck is a Mercury, why does Ford Motor Co. say it's a Ford?
Since when was the 3 speed manual transmission an option?
The 3 speed manual transmission was standard equipment on all F100/350's.
The Borg Warner 3 speed overdrive, New Process 435 and Borg Warner T-18 4 speeds were optional as was Cruise-O-Matic on F100's.
Dual electric horns and oil and amp gauges were part of the Custom Cab package.
One would assume if the info comes from Ford Motor Company it would be correct. Obviously...it isn't correct.
btw: A 3.31 Limited Slip Rear Axle (ratio) is a Dana 44, not a 9 inch. Ford did not offer 9 inch rear axles with Limited Slip on F100's until midyear 1968.
The Warranty Plate and specific codes used on 1966 and 1967 Mercury trucks are the exact same thing as was used on Ford trucks sold in the US.
1965 and previous years, the plate and codes are Canada only.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I was hoping you'd see that letter and respond. I was wondering about the very things you mentioned. I guess Ford missed the mark on this one.
But what do I do now??
If this info came from Marti, then there is no point in contacting him.
I guess looking for info on trucks this old is a crap shoot at best...:0
I would still like to find a paper trail through the DMV or insurance records or something.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Does Ford keep records of the dealer who took the original delivery? Maybe if I knew which dealer sold it, I could track it from there.
If it was built in Ontario, wouldn't have gone to a dealer near by?
I'd contact Ford customer service again, but I doubt the kiddies working there would be of much help.
Thanks again,
John
