I have a 1987 F350 6.9 diesel that at some point the previous owner replaced the original transmission with a modern 5 spd. My problem is now I have now where to hook up the mechanical speedometer cable to. From what I understand the newer mosels have the pickup at the rear end ABS speed sensor.
Has anyone here delt with this issue? Suggestions? Is there a retrofit kit or something outhere.
Thanks,

In 1992 Ford went to an electric spedo, Your spedo will not work at all. Just buy a Garmin Street pilot off ebay and you have the most accurate spedo made. I bought a C340 for 51.00 off ebay. My 2c.
Dude, why did you ask 3 times? I replied to one of your other posts about this issue. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but you only need to post once and then give it some time. Certain times of the day have more traffic and you may get an answer right away, other times it may take a few hours. There are some veterans here who can get downright nasty when it comes to such things. Like I said earlier though, you will need an older tailshaft housing from an 87-91 2wd ZF. It will have the hole to mount your speedomoeter cable.
If you look at the drivers side right above the output shaft is there a plug in the tail housing?
I have seen several of the newer ZF's that had the hole for the speedo sender plugged but it was still there.
And if the hole is plugged, there is usually not a speedo drive gear installed.
But you should be able to add one by removing the yoke.
To answer your question DUDE: Why did I ask 3 times? I only placed my question in two different sections. Why? because it seemed more appropriate in this section after reading some more.
I do appreciate your help concerning my technical question and I can handle "nasty" replies.
No problem just trying to catch you before flaming begins. I've seen new people up and leave after only a few posts due to getting chewed on by some of the more hardened users over stupid things. kudos to you for looking around at the other forums. Seen plenty of people just stick to the first forum section they find and never realize what else is here.
You may have to find a junkyard ZF to get just the tailshaft housing. Some specialty shops will sell the housing separate though. We have a shop that will sell you any part of a transmission, but they don't sell complete transmissions. I went there when I had to replace the tailshaft housing on my father-in-laws jeep.
