I've been using Linseed oil to coat my trucks for a few years now, it seems to work ok just a mess to clean up when it runs out of all the cracks. How well does motor or hyd oil compair?
Have you had good results with this? It would seem to me that either linseed or motor oil would simply attract dirt and dust, and resulting clumps would be a good place for moisture to collect. Plus, they are going to wash off in a good rain.
I'd collect soda cans for a while and buy real undercoating.
I've had good luck withe linseed, it dries and leaves a coating that is a bear to clean off. A lot of the towing companies around here use it on their wreckers etc. I've seen worse problems with regular rubberized undercoating holding moisture
If linseed is proven I'd stick with it. Petroleum oil won't "dry", and will come off with water.
Remember, if you're mortgage is past due but your insurance is paid up, you can store those linseed oil covered rags in a paper bag in the center of your house.
I knew a Ford mechanic that use to coat his F-1 with used motor oil every year, take it for a drive on a dusty road and it was good to go for a New England winter. Maybe I will try linseed oil.
There are a few guys around here that spray them with bar and chain oil.I had my Bronco sprayed with it before last winter and it seemed to work well.Right now I'm debating on whether to get the Bronco sprayed again before winter or buy a chit box to drive this winter and keep the Bronco out of the salt and snow.
Guess anything is better than nothing! Only thing I don't like about linseed is cleanig up for days afterward, don't let it dry on the paint!! LoL What a pain to get off
I had a blast taking my B2 off road in Maine during the summer and loved it in the winter. Excellent traction and front to rear weight ratio.
If your FSB is very nice and rust free, I would buy a $1500 1984-1985 B2 junker to drive.
Yea I have been pondering on getting a chit box to drive this winter. I really hate to put my Bronco through another winter. But on the other hand I'd go nuts driving a chit box.
She spent most of her life in Hawaii so she's only seen a couple winters.
