I have a 97 psd with cali emissions. I had to change the fuel pump due to a leak and apparently poked a pin hole in the "disc" on the top of the wishbone pipe the banjo bolt goes thru. I am not sure if the truck even needs this thing since it is not even on regular psd's only the california emission ones. My question is what is it, will it run without it, and how is it removed. If anyone can help please do. It is really heart breaking when you think a job is done and it is just starting.
The why is it there who knows. Never heard of anyone running without it in the stock Cali fuel system. It screws on and off. It may have just come loose. The unit and the washer are separate parts.
I pulled the turbo and got the wishbone piece out that the banjo bolt goes thru and removed the pulse dampner. I would like to know if the truck will run fine without it because if it will I will buy a non-cali wishbone piece so that if I ever have to change the fuel pump again it won't be such a PITA. I will have to change the banjo bolt too. If anyone out there has done this please let me know how it turned out.
Thought I would try to help close the loop on this topic... I also have a 97 cali with a leaking pulse damper. First off, you can remove the damper (and fuel pump) without removing the turbo on a cali truck. It's a PITA, but can be done. I removed the damper and replaced it with an M14 x 1.5 x 12mm drain plug. (reused the copper washer from the damper) There's no noticeable difference in how the truck runs without the damper.
