Ok...first off I understand ALL of the arguments against switching out to HID's in vehicles that didn't come with them stock.
My question is whats the best kits on the market if I want to swap over to hid's on lets say an off road only vehicle...... Looking for stock type hid lighting (my understanding is about 4300K).....want bright white light...not blue...
Hey, if all you want is something for off road, then go for it. But if they're for the street. Do the folks on your local roads a favor and stay with a good quality halogen.
From personal experience, I'd recommend you avoid DDM. They were tough to communicate with. Heck, they told me their H13 hi/lo would work just fine with my plow electronics. Unfortunately, on my end, they were wrong. So now I own a set that I'll never use. I'd put them on ebay, but there are hundreds of these POS's there...
I will say, the beam pattern for either the heads or the fogs was horrible. No way would I blind folks on my local roads with these things.
If it's for off road why not get some KC lights? I've got some mounted on my Bull bar and they throw some serious light. More than that, it's serious fun to kick those things on when some car with aftermarket HIDs that aren't properly aimed comes along. They get the point.
I understand the reasons not to do it.....but there is also a "correct and proper" way to do it....its not impossible to put a projector in and make a cutoff line......i've converted bikes to projectors before....its not impossible to do the same thing with a car or truck......I really just need to know good brands to use...
All I have to offer is I know a number of years ago, 3 maybe, that Hella had a nice kit that I think was just some re-branded Philips hardware. I haven’t really looked hard recently, only far enough to know that there are a lot of sub par kits out there these days. If it were me I'd try and find something from Sylvania, but I’m biased from my stage lighting days.
i wish i could find it, i know there was a company on here a few months ago that had plug and play kits, with good quality bulbs and parts......now i can't find them....dang
Ryan, what did you wind up doing on this? I have not put in my headlight bulbs yet, and was thinking about doing this. But I wanted to get some opinions on it first.
I guess I dont know the arguments for and against them really besides they **** people off because they are so bright. However the ones in the video posted here dont appear like they would be that bright.
So the ones you have, can you see better with them? Were they a waste of money? Did you wish you would have upgraded sooner?
I ended up getting a 55w Digital slim kit from retro-solutions.com and i'd NEVER go back.....they did need to get aimed down a bit.....but are still way way way better than the regular bulbs...
That said....if you don't go that route...i was still happy with the phillips crystal vision ultras......
Last a year? Well i'm on my 3rd year in my car and never had a issue, stock hid projectors and HID fog lights from DDM. And if one do go bulbs are only $15 bucks a set from DDM. Anyways any machine i drive i will have HID's in them from now on, i think its the best investment anyone could make.
But enough ranting, I am going to be installing a set of HID's in my 06 F150 Harley and I'm wondering how HID's will work with the H13 bulb??? Everything i have dealt with in the past has been single beam bulbs like a 9006 or H11, the H13 is a duel filament bulb, do the high beam be HID? or just a regular halogen? or does it work at all lol? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
