Black CPS Stolen

My 99.5 F350 was hit in the rear and was sent by repair shop to Ford dealer for a 4 wheel alignment. Dealer noticed that truck had not been in for cps recall and replaced the one that I had put in from IH with out my approval. Needless to say I am not very happy now. They agreed to replace cps for as long as I own the truck if I pay for the part. They will eat labor. They offered to give me several black ones that came out of whoever's truck but not tell me that they were giving my IH CPS back. Is there any way to tell difference between Ford black and IH black. Is there a difference? I believe I will get them to also give me back some black ones.
Has any one had the new grey one go out? Any problems after replaced in recall??

Thanks, Mike

That sucks. I still keep getting letters about the recall and refuse to take mine in. I have the black OEM one in there now with no problems. I do have 2 more black IH ones for spares. IIRC, the OEM will still have the IH part number on the side and will have either a C93 or C99 suffix stamped on the end in the plastic.

I just got another letter from Ford in the mail, even after I called them to request that I be removed from that list.
I told them that I already had a grey one installed from previous to the recall and I wasn't going to bother with bringing the truck in for that.
Maybe I'll stick my grey one back in and take it in just to get them to quit stalking me about it.

Good idea, Dan. That way the one you get shouldn't be any worse than the one they take out.

If that happened to me, I would have them furnish the part and labor or at least the part for the life. It's only a 10 minute job to change it but the part is at least $25. Since they removed the part, have them furnish the part.

I think I just bought your old one? Just Joshn'. Seems like a good deal if they work.

OK guy's we need to clear the air on CPS'S,my 2002 has just under 80,000 miles AND has the original cps, 5-6 year's ago I went to international and bought a spare,They sold me IH p/n 1825899C93,then when the cps recall came out I went in for a trans flush AND the GAVE me a new one with the recall but I asked if I could just have it for a spare in the glove box as the original was working fine and they did just hand it to me,some time ago I read an article saying to only use the IH p/n 1821720C99,would you think my IH ending in C93 would be OK if/when the original take's a dump,I do remember someone saying NOT to use the IH p/n ending in C91 AND some one saying the new/recall cps's from ford were causing issue's,can anyone sort this mess out, thank's,Poppie

Sorry that happened to you but thanks for posting. On the outside chance that I have to take my truck to the dealer, I will take my current black one out and put in one that has the bucking/stalling issue. There's no way I am giving up a good black for a POS gray.

I get those letters too. I don't even open them anymore. Straight into the circular file they go.

The C93 should be just fine. I ran that one for a few years with no problems. I have the C99 for a spare and I believe it's the latest version of the black CPS. I am currently running the OEM CPS that came with the truck. I am not sure what number it is. The gray ones, installed during the recall, are known for giving "phantom' codes and cylinder contribution problems that can cause a rougher idle and slight loss of mpgs.

When my dad took my 00 in to get the recall done I specifically said to make sure they give the old one back! to throw in the glovebox for a spare. My dad totaly blanked it while he was there and when he called about an hour later to go pick it up they said they couldnt find it. Boy was I POed, not at my dad but the fact that my MPG dropped with the grey one in, I replaced it with an black IH I bought and had the same MPG drop. Wish I still had my original one back in there. (sniff)(sniff) They just dont make em like they used to.

This is me to a tee, with the OEM still in mine and giving me shut down issues right after startup after driving a mile or so, took mine in for the gray CPS recall and after a while I was noticing a very mild eratic idle, if that makes sense. Bought a IH black off of Clay, when he had them and installed it ASAP. Runs great, seemed to smooth right out.
