I read as Harte3 and Abandoned Bronco went through this with a Holley 390, and now it's my turn. I'm giving up on my Autolite 4100, and replacing it with an Edelbrock 500. If anyone has experiance with this, please let me know, because I'll be operating right out of the manual. I am buying the calibration kit with it, and plan to spend this weekend dialing it in.
I'd try it right out of the box first. I have no experience with it on a 300I6, but have run them on a 302. The CD that comes with it is worth watching. Run it and see what happens.
I installed my Edelbrock 500 yesterday. I am quite impressed. Without needing to use the calibration kit, it seems to run great, but the transition from primaries to secondaries are so smooth that I cannot tell if they are opening, lol. With the Autolite 4100 you felt them kick in like an extra boost of power. But with this carb it is just a smooth accelleration all the way, no sudden burst of extra power. But plenty of power.
That is the way the secondaries are supposed to work. That is the way I have my Holley tuned to work. Glad to hear you like it. I haven't seen any complaints from the Edelbrock users.
The Edelbrock is perfect! I love it. It was a simple bolt in operation. But I have been so busy with my bearing/oil pressure issues that I have not had time to calculate mpg. I'll post when I do.
