11 psi boost

Truck has tuner and 5in pipe but it only gets 11 psi boost. i checked for leaks and it has non. would the wastgate do this? It winds up fast to 11 but it just stops cold in its tracks.

You HAVE to have a leak, a fueling problem, or a broken turbo. Or horrible tunes.

Just so we cover all the basics. What kind of tuner? How are you reading boost pressure (gauge with vacuum tube or something electronic)? What all, & how did you check when looking for leaks?

it has an edge tuner and all my gages are electronic. even when the tuner is on the stock setting it reads 11 psi. the truck feels fast till it gets to the 11 psi and then it gets real slugish. the truck had 14.5 psi on sat and 2 weeks ago i seen over 18 psi. thetruck only has 70000 miles on it and i dont get on it very often i just use it for long driving. the tester i used was a pvc end cap and an air fitting and it does not make any noise it just keeps building presure. the turbo wheel feels tight no slop. i really need some ideas. thanks for all the help.

I'm not familiar enough with the Edge programming to know if it's trying to fool the MAP sensor, but it's nice to know that's where your boost readings are coming from.

The test you're describing checks for leaks in the intake (intercooler) side of the equation. Do you know what the up-pipes are? You need to be looking for soot stains around the Y collector behind the turbo where the up-pipes go in.

If there are no leaks on the intake side of the turbo, your up-pipes are leaking.

If the up pipes were leaking he'd have a slower spool up. He said it feels fast up to 11psi. I think he has a leak. My Mazda would do that as the couplers pulled apart during boost. Might want to try and check all the couplers and clamps. Maybe stretch them to see if there are any tears in them or a clamp maybe loose.

Wait a minute, stock is 11psi. That is way low. Even stock I got around 15psi or higher. With a good tune you should make way over 20psi. I was doing around 30psi on the 80hp econ on my DP tuner today. Real odd, need to look around real good under the hood.

when i hooked the air compresor up to it woudent the boots and up pipes made noise or lost presure? my lower boots are all covered with thick grease, even the orange ones are grimie. the one up pipe has a about a half inch dent from where it hits the powersteering pump but it dident feel like it was leaking any air or i could not hear any coming from it. my truck runs great and drives down the road fine it reads 2 psi at 60mph. at low speeds driving around i hear the turbo it sound nice no surging or anything.

The dent is normal. It came from the factory like that. Some have had an issue with a hole there, but most do not. When you test the pressure, are you airing it up to say 20 psi and then watching to see how fast the pressure bleeds off? Or are you just pressurizing the system and listening for air?

No the air compressor on the intake side will not cause any leaks in the up pipes.

Whenever you install a chip or tuner in a 7.3 you should expect to get a P0603 code. It's completely normal, no matter which tuner or chip you use.

I have to disagree. I replaced up-pipes on someones truck this summer that would build fine to 15 psi and then fall flat from there. After the replacement, he was at 28 psi no problem. Check the up-pipes.

LOL sounds like there are more problems with the truck though so we have to wait and see what it is. Greasy couplings can be leaking from there. Your probably right though.

In the meantime I'll still be.
