Oooohh crap!

Well.... As most of you know I did a bunch of goodie work to my truck about 2-3 weeks ago and have been enjoying it allot Now I have been paying special close attention to everything since then and have noticed something that has me concerened..... My de-gas cap has had a small amount of coolant around it and I can hear the "tea kettel" once and a while. I cleaned around the de-gas and drove again for a day or two and same thing....
Today I took the cap off and followed the TSB and sanded the surface (there were nic's) and I took the cap off my V-10 and put it on. Now I have not had puking but when I shut the truck off and pop the hood I can hear a small amount of air leaking by the cap
I do not have a gauge I can test the system pressure with but I have a bad feeling..... Like a guy said a week or so ago.... " I have a knot in my stomach and it is linked dirrectly to my wallet" or something like that

I am guessing my HG's are leaking and probably were before I started my modds but now I am paying allot more attention to the overall truck and have noticed. I am supposed to be leaving Sunday for a Salmon fishing trip pulling my 21' boat and am scared as hell to take my truck
Is there anything I am forgetting that I can check myself?

Thanks,

JT

I really did not think I miss treated the truck since I had done the mods. I run a real laid back street tune from Eric and intended on keeping it that way till I got the studs done.

Ford has a newly designed degas cap for the 6.0. I would try one of those before jumping overboard. About 17 bucks.

Well,
So far so good. I put the new cap on in the parking lot of the dealer and picked two of my girls from school and took them home. Now back at "work" and I did not hear any ait leaking by when I popped the hood in the shop.
I will be watching it close and keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks again 69cj!

By the way JT, you need a coolant filter on that thing.

I agree with 69cj on the coolant bypass filter...it will help keep that oil cooler straight. I can't remember if you did the full delete or just plugged the valve. Did you replace the up-pipe entirely or remove the up-scoop from the OEM up-pipe?

I did a full delete...

After driving yesterday I parked in the shop when I got home and this morning I had antifreeze on the floor.... Traced it out and the top of the radiator is leaking....

CRAP!

So the new cap held but then the radiator took a crap. I have a bad feeling Lucy!

The cap has a preset release built into it. You possibly had a faulty cap before that covered up a radiator defect.

There are some posts on one of the other forums on the cost of Ford radiators - seems like you should be able to get one for under $300.

I spent some time this afternoon looking into this a bit further and i am not convinced that the radiator is bad just yet.
This morning it looked like the top of the radiator left side was split where the plastic and aluminum meet. After further investigation it may just be the top radiator hose leaking down on to it.? I took the hose off and cleaned everything up and will have to drive the **** out of it an see. A friend of mine that helped me with the original project said he has seen the hose leak like that before and suggested I give that a try first.

Well,,,,

I made it there and back with no problems. The top hose clamp was the culprit! Truck performed great!
I did notice some erratic shifting for the first 20 miles or so but it came out of it and worked great. I am guessing it takes a few miles of towing to re-learn shift points?

Anyway trip was good. Fishing on the other-hand....... Sucked!
