I have access to a '96 F150, 5.0 man. trans MAF truck for parts. I want to convert my '92 Flare from SD to Maf. What is needed, besides the MAF sensor, snorkel tube, airbox, ecm, joining pigtail wiring ? The harness is not available from the parts truck, so I know additional harnessing is necessary. My Flare is also 5.0 but with AOD. Is the stick trans ecm gonna work in my application/conversion? Thanks
The '96 is obd-2 with a 104 pin EEC connector which isn't compatable with the 60-pin OBD-1 harness in your '92. With an AOD you could use either a 5-speed or non computer controlled auto EEC from a truck or a Mustang but it has to be OBD-1.. which is '95 or earlier.
check out www.fordfuelinjection.com for additional info. there are links on the site to a place that make the wiring harness you need for this very swap.
Thanks gentlemen, looks like that was an exercise of frustration. Guess the only thing I can use from this pile of parts is maybe the snorkle and air filter box.
Maybe I should just put a mild cam in the little beastie and hope for the best, eh? Is 114 LC the preferred dimension here? With a lift in the area of .440 - .470 ? Just want a torquey improvement, not looking for H.P. gains
Yes a cam upgrade is worth the effort on that motor, it will have a roller cam but it's the same as the old flat tappet which just barely pokes the valves open enought to make noise. A nice upgrade would the the cam from the '96 motor or any 94+ truck 5.0 and then you could add 1.7 roller rockers while you're in there for total lift of about 0.450/0.470" which believe it or not is about 0.100" more than you have now. That cam also adds about 10 deg duration to both sides but still maintains a torquey 256 deg duration seat-seat.
