Ok guys just for spits and giggles how difficult would this be? From what I've read, the 97 350's with 460 are SFI and MAF. I'm curious about this. I've got a line on the ECM and Harness. Besides modifying for the MAF sensor, is this all I need? Or does this mess with the distributor and other parts as well? If it's just the ECM, MAF sensor and some intake piping mods along with the harness, this would be a fairly easy mod I would think.
The 1996/97 7.5L California trucks under 14,000 GVWR yes that is correct according to my Ford Manual, are OBD-II, not OBD-I. Not a very easy swap IMHO.
There are a few rare early 1996 7.5L Cali. trucks with OBD-I and MAF/SFI. Every once in a while someone on this forum with one chimes in on a thread covering this topic.

I'll have to look at my local junkyard to see if they have any 460's with the OBD-I. Most likely not. If they do, I'm snagging the whole damned harness, computer, and MAF sensor. Also, RJM Injection Tech sells a harness where you can use a 94-95 computer, but I don't know how that would lead to SFI versus MFI, being as I thought the computer controlled that.
Also, from some more reading today, in the 460's, the MAF doesn't really seem to give more power, but that was more for emissions reasons here in the Dictator State (CA).
MAF won't produce more power in and of itself on any motor, but it does adapt better to mods that increase airflow through the motor which.. is how you make more power. Besides the addition of the MAF meter the other big difference between this system and the SD version is sequential injection, so an injector overlay sub-harness will also be part of any converion. In other words all ford MAF systems use sequential injection be they OBD-1 or OBD-2.
The OBD-II Factory 460 MAF setup also has a crankshaft position sensor, and a special toothed balancer wheel to go along. Which I believe requires the front cover to be swapped to be able to use the sensor.

Thanks for posting this info! It makes for a really easy way to tell if an engine has the MAF setup or not (if one doesn't know where to look for the MAF sensor, sometimes Ford likes to hide those inside the air cleaner housing like on the Windstars).
Easy way to tell if it is a CA truck is the hoses going to the air box... instead of two going all the way they have two going into one large hose with the MAF. Also the 97's don't have a smog pump.
