903 Cummins

I'm going to school to be a diesel technician. I asked my teacher about a 903 Cummins in one of my tractors and he just laughed at me and told me you do not even want to open that can of worms. He mainly explained that they were just to expensive and old to work on anymore. Other than that i didnt get another info about it. I tired looking on the Internet but i cant really find anything about them. So my question is why are they not very good and what kind of power did they make?

I know they were used in the Bradley Fighting vehicle of the military. They did ok, but I hear they start spitting out rods if you start playing with em. It's been quite a few years since I was around them, but I think they were around 400hp. They arent as bad as the 555 Cummins V8, or the Detroit 8.2, so dont feel too bad.

I got 2 tractors with the 903 in them. 1 runs and the other doesnt. So i guess my Versatile is good for about 300-400 HP then.

There's a reason why they earned the nickname Nine - 0 - nothing. Most would be better off on the end of a chain at the bottom of the ocean.

Rob has been around, Nine O Nothing was the common term in the day because it was just a big hog with no power. Sounded sweet but that was it, nothing. I drove one for awhile and was glad to get back into my Kitty Kat.
