Well I've come to find out the donor frame I was going to use for my build has some rust. More than I like. Most of it is surface rust which I can deal with since the frame is getting sandblasted anyway but there is one spot I'm concerned about.
That is right under the crossmember where the front spring hanger is on the pass side. The top and sides of the C channel are good it's just the bottom section I'm worried about. It's only about a 6"-10" section. This is the only bad spot on the entire frame and seeing as how it took me a year and a half to find this frame I'd like to be able to use it instead of going on the search again.
What would be the best way to go about fixing this? Cut it out and weld in a new section or plate overtop of what is already there? I've got access to a welder and basically everything I need for fabrication, I've just never dealt with fixing a rusty frame before. Any advice from someone with experience would be great!
The pictures are a little to close to see just what you are dealing with but I would cut the frame back to good metal to remove the bad part.
Then weld in good. Could also run a plate over the welds if you want.
