The Weatherguard has better protection considering the 4 lateral bars. However, they unit is bolted together as opposed to being welded together.

Model 1908 Heavy Duty PROTECT-A-RAIL® Cab Protector

Dimensions: H: 26 3/8 L: 71 Weight (lbs.): 46
  • Headache rack designed to protect the cab of the pickup from shifting loads in the cargo area.
  • In black Armor-Tuf powder coating on steel
  • Custom fit installation kits available to fit full size Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and GM trucks.

The Back Rack is welded together and is a cleaner design.

BACKRACK:
  • Has two horizontal flat steel bars to protect the window.
  • Is easier to secure cargo to than SAFETY RACK.
  • Has less width for load carrying than SAFETY RACK.
  • Is generally cab height of truck for low profile look.
  • Opinion is that it looks more stylish than SAFETY RACK.
  • More receptive to Light Brackets than SAFETY RACK.
  • Less expensive than SAFETY RACK.

BackRack. I have one on my 2008 F350 and it is solid. A big plus point for me is that it also fit right in with my RollBak roll-up tonneau cover with no mods to either even though the install in virtually the same place. Great combo together for my 0.02.

Today I bought the WeatherGaurd.

Ive been looking at the Backrack design, but wasnt 100%.
Theres guy up north that makes cool ones but couldnt get a hold of him fast enough.
Truth be told I need it for tote'n a big ladder or stringer around and think I'll end up getting some cb whips to attach as well.

I was going down the street this week and seen for the first time a Weathergaurd, I liked the look a little more of it coming down along the side w/ two holes for hooks or whatnot. The price was semi comparable to Backrack after they get ya on the install hardware. And what I mean is you really want the kit (which is 83 bucks) because it's the bottom assembly, so the price was better till that little trick bag! Ha!

But I goota say I like it more, and also the idea of the bolts on the riser is cool cause if for some reason you want to raise the center rack you can.
Bummer is in low position it blocks top taillight. So I'm on the second, I think there is like four height spots.

Thought I'd be honest and say the downside's as well.
Sorry no pic's today, camera program just erased the pic I needed and now the weather is no good, maybe in a day or 2, Later!

RKI is better than either of those, costs less, and is made in Texas.

Those "Back Racks" are ugly as hell.

X2 on the RKI's, my friend has one on his truck it looks great and appears to be high quality construction and is solid
