hello all i have a 97 f150 4x4 with a 4.6 auto with 257000 miles my transfer case started leaking at the tailshaft how hard is it to get the tail off the transfer case
take off the driveshaft. 12 mm 8 point socket. then take off the big nut. slide out old seal and replace. Note there will be some leakage when you remove the seal. Make sure you mark the drive shat so its put back the same way.
If it is the seal between the t-case and the tail shaft, you will need to take the driveshaft out, remove the speedo sensor and unbolt. If it is the rubber lip seal at the end of the tail shaft, just remove the driveshaft and use a screwdriver to pop the old seal out. Then, lightly tap in a new seal.
