I believe my rear trans seal is bad on my truck. (Picture Below). I need to know if this is an easy fix or does the trans have to be dropped?
The trans fluid is coming out of the rubber that surrounds the slip yoke and I think that it slowly makes it's way to the bottom and then drips on the crossmember and then to the ground.

All you need to do is pull the driveshaft out and use a large screwdriver or a seal puller would work better and pop the old seal out. Then, lightly tap a new one in with a hammer or better yet, use a socket that fits the base of the seal. Easy fix, and a cheap part.
And by the way, that is a transfer case seal not a transmission seal for when you go and get the part. Make sure to check your transfer case fluid when the repair is complete.
alright thanks, going to have to wait a while to do this but I was reading elsewhere that there is a bushing of some sort in there that could also be damaged or is that uncommon?
so this is much easier than the seals i just replaced in my axles?
The gauges are off ebay. They are just an overlay that you put on inplace of the stock one. The trans temp gauge isn't very hard. I just screwed the temp probe into one of the pressure ports on the side of the transmission. Some say that it is better to do it into the pan but this was cleaner and easier the way I did it and the temp it reads is very very close to actual temp. Then you need to just find an ignition hot power source and a ground. The gauge pod it is in came from summit racing.
