OK when its nice and warm out side and I start Red up in the mornings it runs fine. But if its just a little cool it starts OK but will go in to a little rough or skip idle and smoke like a train while its doing it. I can give it some pedal or put it on fast idle and it will quit smoking and straighten out. It only does it when it cool. I have noticed a little flutter in the idle on warmer days but very little and no smoke. I checked the icp plug and it had a little oil in so I cleaned it out and started truck with it unplugged but this didn't help. I am trying to get in touch with rob and hook up the AE so what all should I look for? Or give me any idea's that you have.
I had the exact symptoms on a 5.9 Cummins. No CEL, no codes but same symptoms.Ended up being a tank of **** poor fuel.Added some DK and 2cycle oil, changed fuel filter and in a few days it was back to normal.
Your ICP should be around 650psi at idle or so, and should just fluctuate slightly. While you have have the AE, you could do things like the cylinder contribution test, test the glowplugs and things like that.
I would look closely at the glowplugs from the ways it sounds, you would be surprised without them even when its warm that for a few seconds it still acts a tad funny.
Did you get rid of your AIH? If you did, its not heating the air going into the engine when its cold and not fully combusting all the fuel until things warm up. At least thats my theory.

Greg yes I did away with the AIH. but it did this before I deleted it. Would this cause a flutter in the idle? Does yours smoke like a train when its cold I mean alot of smoke a few others said theres does not sure why

Just to be clear, can you add some numbers to warm and cool so we know what temps you're talking about? Down here, warm is around 95 deg, but you may have a different opinion.

That's some pretty impressive numbers. Is that with an upgrades HPOP or tuner? I've seen 480 - 520 psi at idle as being normal for a stock truck.

Yep, smokes pretty good for a few mins until it warms up and will shudder for about 10-20 seconds when I start it.
The flutter is because of the HPOP oil system I use and is common on most big oil systems. I don't know what you have for oil though.
I have the Terminator HPOS. When I route the IPR relief hose to the top of the resivour, it never flutters (because the HPOP resivour is always full), but then I get high oil temps. When I dump the remote IPR into a different location, I get the flutter but have normal oil temps.

Sure if its below 65 degrees in the morning it will start this smoking stuff but if its 70 or above it starts up with out smoke. I put in new glow plugs last year and I have the stancore gpr. HELP I hate the start up smoke. On a cold morning 32 or below which is around the corner it will smoke up a acre or so if I just let it idle.
Well as the guy who decided to change his avatar said ( sorry Greg, but when I get used to a picture it confuses me when people change it), your HPO system could have something to do with it. So could your hybrids or tunes.
I'd ohm the glow plugs, then check voltage on the GPR with a meter to rule those out. If those check good, I'd use the high idle feature on your DP to get it warmed up faster.

Nothing special, its a stock, but very healthy HPOP, 238cc hybrids, and custom tuning, idling at 750 rpm
