stuck in reverse

Installed an edge evolution programmer onto my 2001 powerstroke. Now it acts like the torque conv locks up when i put it into drive. Works in reverse though. The programmer was used. Thought the programmer messed up something so i took to my local ford dealer to have the pcm flashed and they said it was fried and i needed a new one,(pcm that is). My question, is this possable? Any thoughts?

Welcome to FTE. Anything is possible. With the tuners such as DP the key must not be in the ignition when installing the chip. With the key in the ignition the PCM goes into wake up mode. (The dinger for the keys in the ign is an example) Did you have the install instructions for the Edge? Are you 100% sure that it is the correct one for your truck?

Welcome to FTE.
And I agree with Jim, anything is possible when buying a used programmer.

I have some personal experience with the Edge Evo. Jim: I ran one on my truck for about 6 months. And you do have to cycle the key several times to upload stock tunes and then download the edge tunes. (after the demise of the stock tranny) I decided to get rid of the Edge Tuner, I let the guy have it back that had let me borrow it, when we installed it back into his truck(which also was a late 99 like mine) it fried his PCM. I am not familiar with exactly how the process works, however i do know we installed it into his truck correctly, and have heard of this happening several times. Just my $.02

I'm sure the programmer is the right one for my truck and i'm sure i installed it correctly. The installation went smooth and i turned the key on and off whenever the programmer told me to. It even gave me the hex code for my truck. I should also mention that the programmer is the evolution 2 dash mounted pod. I used the handheld evolution on it before and it worked perfectly. thanks for all the input guys. I will have my pcm checked out and let you know the results.

Took my pcm out and sent it to edge products. They are checking it for me. Said they'd fix it and flash it if they could. Doing it all for free. Gotta give em props for that. Let you know when i know.

Got my pcm back yesterday from edge. Hooked it up and she runs n drives perfect. Didn't have anything wrong with the pcm (other then bad programming) so they flashed it for me and shiped it back over night. Hooked the programmer back up and it works great. I should mention that they also flashed the programmer. Didn't even send it to them. Hooked it to my home computer and they flashed it from there HQ in utah. Don't know much about computers so that impressed me. They did all this and all it cost me was about $16 to ship it to them. It cost me $150 to have the ford dealership tell me that my pcm was fried and i needed a new one (won't go back there again). It would have cost me another $800 in parts n labor if i took there advice. I'm glad there are good guy's like the ones at edge. Thanks to everyone at edge and to all the guy's at FTE who helped.
