Yes you can. You need a block off plate, and a plug to plug the hole in your exhaust manifold. You also need a resistor to fool the computer in to thinking its still there. They sell them online, you can use google to find them. I wouldnt bother, they help it idle smoother, help mpgs, reduce pinging and save the world all at once.

I'm willing to bet you are actually talking about all the rubber hose and valves sitting right on top of the motor. If so that's the air injection and isn't related to the EGR system which is just that 1 valve attached directly to the intake right beside the throttlebody.

The air injection can be removed, the air pump can stay and be used as an idler pulley or you could remove it and install a shorter belt. Be sure to plug the holes where the tubing attaches to the motor, if it goes into the back of the heads you need a 5/8x1" coarse bolt, and plug the vacuum lines and exhaust.

thanks so if i understand this right the whole egr system can be removed and put in a resistor and the air pump and rest of the system can be removed without any malfunctions to the system.i would also like to get better mpg

If you want better MPG leave the EGR on the motor and connected, but all the plumbing associated with the air injection can go it doesn't affect milage at all.

not to hijack the thread, but does the air injection system affect perfmormace?

No it's purpose is simply to improve tailpipe emissions, and it doesn't consume any meaningful amount of power when attached so therefore doesn't free up any if removed.

im also wondering it seems to be running rich its averaging about 10 mpg is there anything to improve this. it seems to be running good plenty of power but also in 1 and 2 at low rpms it surges (bucks) between 1000 and 1500 rpm really bad.any suggestions?

How so? If you removed it and plugged up the holes, how could it hurt your mileage?

The EGR allows you to use less fuel during cruise by diluting the incoming air with inert exhaust gases.
Basically, it is not too lean because the EGR reduces the available oxygen for a given displacement.
If you disconnect the EGR you will have to richen the mixture to avoid lean combustion. (heat and knock)

The resistor is installed so the computer doesn't throw a code for a faulty or missing EGR sensor.

First thing is always... pull the codes.
Then check fuel pressure and for a leaking FPR.
Then if all that checks out OK, check for the fuel transfer problem between tanks if you have dual tanks, doesn't matter if they both work or not.

My inherited '91 F150 was doing that when I first got it.
It quit bucking after I replaced the O2 sensors. :)
The bucking was at 70mph tho.

Never checked the fuel pressure so can't say anything for sure about that. :/
But I always felt like it had something to do with fuel pressure or fuel pumps
like Conanski mentioned.

I'm still in the process of understanding this new stuff. :)
I'm just a dumb ol' carburetor guy. ;)
