Tranny Pan

What do you guys think of cutting the trans pan adding (welding) 6" inches to it and putting copper pipe through the bottom of the pan? I am wondering if the pipes in the pan will make the temp to cold in the winter. I'm not sure exactly what I want to do yet so if guys have anything give me a shout. Thanks

No, the pipes won't make it too cool in the winter. By the same token they won't make it any cooler in the summer. That seems like a lot of work for zero gain.

If you want to cool the trans get a better cooler. The pan is a terrible place to cool the trans.

I did the cooler first. I put a 06 6.0 cooler on which is 3 times bigger than my stock trans cooler. It made a difference but my temps still go to 190 and thats why i was wondering if the pan will work. The trans was rebuilt with a 3 disk torque converter, new seals, shift kit, so there is no slippage. The only other thing I can think of would be the gauge could be wrong

Greg, is the 190* with a load or are you empty? Either way that's really not that high. I was running the freeways yesterday and my only load was a 1500# aluminum boat and motor and I was at 170* but I am running a 40K stack plate cooler, 3/8 tranny lines and a thermostatic ATF control.

IIRC 220* is acceptable.

Hi, it goes to that temp unloaded, it goes a little bit higher loaded. But the strange thing is before I gotten the new trans cooler, the gauge would go up to 220 or 230. I checked and smelled the trans fiuld and it looks clean since i just had it done and doesn't smell burnt. What is a thermo ATF Control??

190F is fine. It doesn't need to get any cooler than that.

I had my friend who is a mechanic drove it and he said it locks up nice and strong. Plus you can feel when it locks. My old one i had would slip out of second when driving down the road, so i could tell the difference between the old and new. Can a triple disk torque converter create extra heat at all? Thanks for thee input

The triple disk converter will not create more heat.
