Just wondering what others have done to replace those long gone or deteriorated glove boxes. I just built mine out of 18 gauge steel so its kinda beefy but thats what I had around. Its a lot better than having the door with no box.
I did pretty much the same thing, although it isn't very deep only about 4 inches so it really isn't a glovebox anymore..........I did that cause that is where I hid the CD player and it couldn't be deeper or the player would hit on the heater box..........now close the glove box door and no CD player visible plus I did not want to cut a hole in the dash.
Those are some interesting ideas about the glove box R&M. I never even thought of making a sheetmetal insert etc. Sounds good. I might do that in some future project, but with my Ford trucks I've found plenty of inexpensive OEM glove box doors on ebay and I usually buy those cardboard/type replacement inserts from aftermarket catalogues. I've pretty much found all the hinges/latches/insert replacement anything glove box related seems available somewhere. But I do like the metal insert idea.
