How hard/easy to pull the drivers/passenger door windows. This is on 2003 XLT 5.4L crew cab. Be honest so I can really decide if this project will be worth doing or not. This is for window tint. I want the tint to be perfect, so removing the windows would be the best option, but if a big hassle, I'll leave it be.

There's trim on the front and back of the glass anyway, and pulling the door panel will allow you to get below the weather strip. Pulling the glass out would serve no purpose other than to make the tint job easier.
Getting the glass out cant be too hard though, my glass guy had one done in less than 30 mins, out and new one back in...
Well I was able to get door panels off and the glass off the bracket, but I can't seem to get the glass out of the door. Is there something I'm missing that needs to come off? I can get the window out of the side track (vertical) bars and move the window freely almost any where but out. Is it a puzzle sort of thing, like rotate window 1/4 turn lift, turn back lift again. I don't know just suggesting. Do I have to remove the vertical tracking bars completely and the rubber in the track, which goes from bottom of door up around top side of door, all the way down to bottom of door on the other side?
Any help will be great. I'm not stressing, just want to figure it out. The tint will look so much better if I can do it with the windows out, Bill
Just as long as the tint is past the weather strip you are good to go.
Either pull the weather strip or pull the door panel then the weather strip.
I know the late models 08-09 you can pull the weather strip without taking off the door panel.
Perfect widow tint can be done with glass in the truck. Too much of a risk of scratching the new tint while installing the glass back into the truck IMO.
Ok silvercrew I'll do it that way. You raise a good point about the re-install and scratching the tint. I have the panels off and the lower weather strip ehchvac so I should be good to go. Thanx for the direction gents, Bill
Thanks for the help guys. Got the tint (chrome fade) done today. Went well. I did get the glass out and did it that way. I just couldn't get the tint to lay the way it needed to on the left upper and right corners. There wasn't a good way to cut it without destroying it, I thought. This was my first attemt at doing it, so getting the window out really helped. Going back in with the window you must be very careful. As silvercrew pointed out, you could scratch the tint very easily. I used a thin piece of cardboard as a backer going back in. Worked well. Thanks again gents, Bill
Yeah If your not a pro (which I am NOT, its about the only thing I will pay someone to do to my vehicles besides paint work) I can see where it would be alot easier to do with the glass out of the truck. Them pro's make it look so easy.... I have made a few attempts to tint over the years....It always turns out "decent" but Im pretty **** so Ill pay for perfection lol
Yeah silvercrew I did it once before to on my 1981 Powerwagon. It was a flat back window. I couldn't lose. This was a lot different. It really looks good. I think, if I didn't get the windows out, it would have not gone so well. I just couldn't be sure where to cut while they were in. Plus I had bad feelings of cutting the weather strips by accident. The eyes are not as good as they were in 1981. Hey it worked out and I'm happy. Now to start another project.
I know its too late now but they also sell pre cut tint kits.
Tintkits.com comes to mind.
Not that I could install pre cut either, it always ends up in a ball on the ground.
Then I go to the tint installer guy and he does it in less than an hour.
