cargo management side rail bolts

Hi & Please Help

I have a sweet 2009 FX4 SC 6.5 box. Looking for the bolt/connection in the bed. There are 12 holes about 16" above the bed 9/32 x 2 1/2 ". These do not have threads and are for some sort of expansion anchor. They are for the cargo managemet system. Im planning to mount some 2x lumber and want to use the right bolts. The dealer couldent find refernce to what I need. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Good question.

Another lazy and or unhelpful dealer parts dept.

Hopefully someone here who has the cargo mgmnt system will chime in as to waht type of fasteners go in those holes. If not, we can just experiment with some of our own.

Good luck

just go to any hardware store and by self taping bolts that are just a little larger than the hole and you'll be set

Those work great for sheet metal (they are also called nutserts and can be purchased at most industrial fasterner supply places, and come in kits with the special installation tool and a small assortment of various sizes, plus you can buy the refills for the individual sizes you may need) If you buy some of these to use make sure you get the heavy grade ones, they come in light duty and heavy duty, the light duty ones are for fixing filing cabnets, etc, but the heavy duty ones have teeth that grip the sheet metal so they won't turn or strip out of the sheet metal they are attached to. These work great I have used them many times, but they can only be used in sheetmetal by itself (like if you just drilled a hole into it) and not if there is a bushing installed behind it. (the nutsert needs to collaspe and crimp into istself to grip the metal and work) The holes in my bed (if they are the ones you are talking about to mount the bed rail system) have what looks like bushings attached behind the sheetmetal for a self tapping bolt to install them like on the bed cargo hooks on the bottom. If this is the case then just get the self tapping bolts thats what the factory did with the hooks. Take one of the screws out of the cargo hooks at the bottom of the bed and you will see the type of bolt you will need to get. Hope this helps and was not to confusing, I'm not always the best at describing how things work.
