I have removed the steering gear box and rag joint from my 1976 f250 and noticed the coupling that attaches to the rag joint is worn where the pegs fit into. I tried to remove this with a gear puller but it wont budge. Is this welded on or is there some other way of getting this off to replace it. Also need to know who carries this part. This has been a great truck that I bought off craigslist for $150. I had it for 2 years and shes still going strong, FORD TOUGH. Thanks for your help

Welcome to FTE
As original: The steering coupler (aka rag joint) is a one piece assembly which bolts to a flange that is part of the steering shaft on one end.
The other end of the coupler has splines which slide onto the input shaft of the gearbox, then is tightened up.
What have you done, cut off the rubber portion of the steering coupler...leaving the rest of it bolted to the flange?
1976 F250 2WD: There are two different steering couplers, it depends on whether P/S is present...or not.

As ford390gashog said the piece on the column is welded to the column and is not removable. However, if you are talking about the flange that is connected to the steering box itself, it is on a splined shaft held in place by a clamp bolt. To remove the flange you must unbolt the clamping bolt and take it completely out. There is a groove on the shaft that this bolt fits in. The flange won't come off untill the bolt is removed.
If you want to hear that sound again you must not forget to correctly reinstall the jumper wire that goes from one side of the rag joint to the steering shaft of the gear box. The "rag Joint" is a rubber and fiber thing that will not conduct the 12 volts from the horn switch to where it has to end up. Pay attention to how it came out, then think back for the re-install.
ok, idk how different it is than my 76 f100, but i bought a new rag joint kit, and it came with new pins. the old pins have to be cut off. i used a grinder. the new pins were bolt on. it made putting the whole kit and kaboodle back together a LOT easier.

Is there a special tool required to remove clamp bolt.... I have loosened all bolts to pull unit..... From observation... The through bold has a different looking head....does removal require special tool?
I picked up a rag joint kit from Knechts Auto Parts for $7.99.
Original had to have the head ground off the pins and drove out. The new pins have studs and a nut.
