There are some OUTSTANDING deals on F-250 SDs on eBay but they ALL seem to be on 03 and 04s for the most part. I have my eye on a couple different trucks, but wanted some advice. One is an 05 that shows a "buy back" on the vehicle history. the others are just 04s with 100K+ miles; for example- '04 King Ranch with 143K-$16,900, '04 Lariat 2wd 167K-$9000, '05 XLT "buy back" with 79K-$14,900 and all these are Crew Cabs. What reasons would cause it to be a buy back?
How long does it take to get an Oasis report. I'm currently overseas and would have to get my wife to do it. Can get multiple Oasis reports at once? Are the carfax reports good by themselves or is the Oasis report more important?
BTW, this truck will not be a daily driver, just used as a back up and for light pulling local and medium distances (less than 1000 miles ocassionally).
There are quite a few owners of VERY reliable 2003's that would disagree w/ you! I will say, if you are buying a used one, go for a later year model. Preferably one w/ some warranty left.
Other than getting ripped off by a dealer who replaced a lot of parts ($3800) and did not fix the problem that ended up being a $140 wiring harnes, I love my 2003. BTW, I bought it off of Ebay about 1.5 yrs ago from a whole seller. I do agree with bismic, buy a later one just for the reason of having a warranty.
Even if this is just going to be a "part-time" vehicle? I would whole-heartily agree with you if buying a daily driver. I went back & forth trying to decide if I was going to buy "newer" and use as DD, but decided to keep the car as the DD and buy the truck for my part-time pulling needs. I think the truck will sit 5 out of 7 days a week, 7 out of 8 weeks every couple months.
Is the Oasis report more important than the CarFax and how easy is it to get an OR?
Looks like most of the deals I have seen are in your "neck of the woods". I'm pretty sure I'll be heading to Texas when it comes time to buy. I have purchased a couple vehicles off eBay and have had good experiences.
I have bought 4 or 5 off of Ebay and have always gotten what I expected. As you can see on my list of trucks, I am a hard core Ford guy. The 2003 is the last one I bought and it was in Mississippi. Ae the trucks you are looking at in the Houston area?
The reason for the warranty issue is that it is expensive to fix any problem you may have and the warranty could be a life saver.
BTW I think there is a thread in the tech folder for getting an oasis.

If it's going to be sitting that much, you might want to consider going with a V-10. The Variable Geometry Turbo has a tendency to rust up and freeze the unison ring on trucks that sit around. 6.0's really do like to be driven often, and hard.

Thanks Steve for the info.
I don't want to do the V-10, so I guess I'll just have to drive the truck more often.
P.S.
Eddie,
I'll check out the tech folder concerning the Oasis.
Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to mention, I have read the stories of the ealier MY trucks and know the 05-06s are the "better" years.
Bite your tongue! Another ebay purchase here, from Texas. No regrets, I LOVE my truck! And now that I read that thread about those 8 F350's with between 620-850k miles on them, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...on-and-on.html I am on a mission. Maybe I won't be buying a work "beater" like I was thinking about and just drive the pizz outta Big D and see what happens BTW sounds like you're in the military-thank you for your service!
Just remember, this is the internet and you can post whatever you like. The poster said that he heard from X person that they had 8 Ford trucks which had between 620K - 850K on the odometers. The truck years were between 2004-2007 Do some math and you will come up with a, for instance a 2007 F350 which is 3 years old this month was driven 566 miles per day for 3 years and never taking a day off. 3Y= 1,095 days X 566 miles= 620K miles. If the driver just took off sunday it would come out to 660 miles per day. I am not implying that it's not doable, but it sound a bit stretched. All 8 trucks were hauling an average of 12,000 LB and the only major repairs were injectors and turbos, but no transmissions.
