yeaterday I changed the fluid in the rear diff . When I removed the cover the was a small bead of silicone just to say it was on the inside of the cover. I think I may have screwed up when I put the new silicone on the cover.
What I did was I put about 1/8 to a 1/4 inch bead of silicone on the inside of the bolt holes rather then the outside (on the cover) After finger tightening the bolt I did get a little oozing of silicone come out to the outside.... On my way hoe from work today I"m thinking that I must have had alot of oozing that went to the inside of the cover.
I havn't used the truck yet, it's been sitting for 24 hours letting the silicone cure properly. My question is will I be ok with some probably excessive oozing of silicone to the inside of the diff ? Being I let it cure 24 hours ?
I did an axle seal last week. I used blue rtv silicone and have never bothered with a cure period, just fill and go. I've never had any leaks either. If you used synthetic diff fluid, like most of them call for, you probably didn't need the friction modifier. The Valvoline synthetic I used had LS additive already in it.

i have run into problems over the years with lube that did not have enough addative. i ALWAYS add a 7 oz tube from Auto Zone. Dont believe the service manual that 4 oz is enough.
