I realize, I am posting, and I dont know what the truck is, I assume it is gas, But still not sure of the year...
All that being said... My 06 does not use that set of tools... My sons ranger, 02 also doesnt... Ford switched to a different coupler...
The way to tell what coupler you have, is, if it is all black, then those tools might work, but if you see Blue, or red, or other color, then they wont work.
as stated earlier, but felt obligated to share info...
Your buddy might have just had a better tool. The plastic ones are very inexpensive, but there are a lot of other metal ones that do the same job better. For once in a while usage, the plastic set has worked for me.
I know he used a screw driver, cuz he had to take off the end, and put a new one on... He showed me that actual proceedure, so I dont make that mistake again...
Here is an example of the fitting on my truck... I hope it isnt to small, I dont know how to enlarge it...
The little blue end, gets popped out with a screw driver, then you simply push the line in, and pull it out...
So is that on the 02 and up?
Mine didn't have that. I used a friends tool plastic set and was a bugger to get off.. Guess the old clamp styles wasn't good enough?
The picture I took is actually on my 06 in my signature...
That beeing said, My sons Ranger had it to (02) I dont know the ryhme or reason behind the change, and it appears there is no real year switch over... The only thing for sure is, If you see a color, like the one posted, then all you need is a screw driver. If no color, then you need the line tool... The line tool is good to have, because to my knowledge it is also used on tranny lines...But there are probably variables there also
