I have an 04 f350 with the 6.0 power stroke and on my way to work today the tow/ haul light started flashing and would continue to flash weather pushing the button or not. Any have any idea what is wrong?
It is an indication that some fault has been detected with the transmission or TCM (transmission control module). You could try getting a parts store to pull the codes to see what the fault is or take it into the dealership.
I had read that error codes could trigger the O/D light notification & the code would make it to the PCM in some cases, and that detailed transmission codes were only on the TCM. Being a former Ford engineer, I will bow to your expertise.

If there is a code that a generic code reader will pick up, it won't do you all that much code as it will be in very broad terms.
This is precisely why I'm a big advocate of either getting AutoEnginuity with the Ford License or use PT DIAG. I happen to use both, but AutoEnginuity would be the cheapest for just the average joe to use. The mongoose for the PT DIAG program would run you 400-500 by itself not including the software(biggest reason is that it also programs the modules as well, not just a code reader).

Error code for the trans do flash the OD light. The code will be stored in the TCM. The auto parts stores do not have the Ford specific software to be able to read Ford transmission codes.
I got the code read b/c it through a check engine code and it came back as a selnoid? The shop that read the code said they won't touch a transmission ah! so he cleared the code and it drove fine for a day now the tow/ haul light is back to flashing and the truck isn't shifting right when I let off the gas completely
