Looking for info.

Looking for some information, my dad had a 84 F-150 XL Reg. Cab Long Bed 2wd with the 351( 4 barrel carb) c-6 auto. it was a service truck for a houston refinery and had the stance of a 4x4 truck but was 4x2. my question is what suspension package could it have had to look like a 4x4 and be a 2wd? i know its a vauge question but any info or thoughts would be appreciated, reason is i'm looking into getting another truck and i want one similar to what we had so long ago. thanks in advance for any info you might have.
