I have a 2004 Excursion with 6.0 diesel. I just bought it about two weeks ago and this just started.
I'm having slow acceleration after first start up of the day (only after it sits for several hours). My first acceleration out of the driveway is very slow and as it revs up I get a hard shift and the problem seems to fix it self after about a minute or so. After that it runs strong. It doesn't seem to matter how long I let it warm up. I've tried to let it warm up for 5 min. but still happens.
I have the same problem the guys on this forum suggest I buy some gauges so I can see when it is really warmed up because this is a really [hi tech ] engine that cost alot of $$$ to fix. go figure.
When mine used to do that the dealer claimed the vanes were sticking...I do know when they replaced the turbo (twice) and cleaned and "milled" or increased its tolerances the third time it fixed the problem each time.
its because its a diesel. it needs to be warmed up befor it has full power. this 6.0l is my 1st light truck but all the big trucks iv driven were the same. theres nothing wrong. mine dose it too. dont go over 2000rpm befor its warm.

Any thoughts?
That is how my truck started out about a year ago.. but would not do it after they would work on it and replace either an EGR or EGR Cooler saying that was what was wrong, then it finally layed down. Check out my link: not to scare ya.
Do you know how long it's been since it had the oil changed? It sounds like cold/cranky injectors to me. Using a good grade of oil and the proper filter is VERY important. 5w40 synthetic may help your cold starts also.
