You've got to have 25 posts before you're allowed to attach pics. Are you referring to the intake wheel in the turbo? It's not too bad a job. Make sure you get some o-rings for the pedestal. http://www.dieselsite.com/pdffiles/ww.pdf
i will keep posting to show some photos. does the whole turbo have to come out or can i access it fromthe inlet ?? and are they spendy ??
thank you for your reply
or you can do it without removing the turbo that way you don't need the o-rings. unless the compressor housing uses one that you need to replace. that i don't know
Yes, you can do it without taking it off. Even without taking the housing loose from the waste gate. That's how I did it. You have to drop the exhaust down-pipe, wrap a long screwdriver with tape (I used duct tape), and stick it in the exhaust wheel blades. I actually used two screwdrivers, just in case. The exhaust wheel CAN be damaged, but it's pretty stout -- it takes a lot of force to do that. DO NOT use an impact wrench to take off the wheel. You'll be beating the tar out of the thrust bearing. The wheel will clear the housing without taking off the waste gate stuff, you just have to get it at the right angle.
thanks for the replys. i just got back from the turbo shop. the turbo is shot inter splines and impeller so i am having one built as we type. one thousand dallars later the pohots would tell the whole story. long story short keep an eye on that turbo inlet hose part # F81Z-9C681-BA hopfully soon the bugs will be gone
Oh man... sorry to hear that. But what "inner splines" are you referring to? And not to rub salt in a wound, but for about $220 you can get a rebuild kit for the OEM turbo, an early-99/Wicked Wheel, and the pedestal o-rings and easily do it yourself in an afternoon.
I would pull the entire intake system and clean it to the heads. Check your blow-by also. You should be able to do this with out the cap popping off of the filler neck:
