August 27th marked 8 years of trouble-free ownership of my truck and over the years I've learned a few things about it, but one thing just has me puzzled and I'm wondering if it's just my truck that does this....
Is your truck picky on oils?
I've just about everything out there that most people swear by and my truck chews through it in a short amount of time.
Shell Rotella 15w40 and 5w40
Chevron Delo 15w40 and 5w40
Amsoil*
Motorcraft 15w40
The above listed did NOT make it more than 2500 miles on a 5000 mile interval. The Amsoil that was supposed to last up to 10,000 miles, didn't come close to the 10K mark.
The only two oils that made it 5K and then some were:
Castrol's Tection Extra 15w40
Valvoline's Diesel Blue 15w40
Is my truck the only one that does this or has anyone else noticed this about theirs?
I've run Rotella, Syn Rotella, and Delo. The only one I didn't like was the Delo. Dumped it early. Syn Rotella in my truck is okay at 8k per my last UOA. What kind of filter are you running? Mine was good on the FL-1995, which I have always run.
I have noticed that some folks' trucks seem to run different on different oils though. Strange...
I've had my truck for 5 years now and it's been an expensive ride.
Transfer case.
Transmission.
Clutch.
Ball joints.
Damaged injectors from air intrusion.

I run Delo 400 15w-40 with outstanding OA's at 5000 miles (Below average wear and contaminants. Well above average on the additive package). I'm curious as to what deficiencies you're finding at 2500 miles?
On the 19th of this month will be 9 years I have had my truck. (bought it new). I have only used Rotella 15w-40 in my truck. Never had anything else in it.
Mines pretty much 10 years old, and just Like Rick, it was bought new. Besides whatever stuff they had in it from the factory(Motorcraft im guessing) its only had Rotella 15w 40 all those years.

My truck was not expensive until I joined on here and found out that Ford could have done alot of stuff better and these folks giving me the ''Mod Virus''...But damn do they run good after you get them there
What do you mean it chews through the oil at 2500 miles. That's hard to believe. Did you have OA done?
I'm a very analytical type person who always wants to know why or how something happens when a problem presents itself. Never had an oil analysis done, but I know it's time to have oil changed when it's black, thin, and my truck runs like crap. It happened everytime and was followed there after with foaming. When I used either Valvoline or Castrol, it never happened.
I've looked into this time and time again and it seems that the truck has a mine of it's own...
That is what I was thinking he may be doing hat, but I didn't want to speak for him. If that is the case, he is wasting a lot of good oil. The detergents in oils are supposed to pull all the gunk out and suspend it in the oil. That means it's doing it's job.
EDIT: I see, while I was typing he answered with a more analytical approach, which is what I hoped he was doing.
