Is This Hot Enough?

My 300/6 barely registers above cold on the Temp gage. I have not changed the thermostat...that is coming.

But in the meantime, will it hurt anything?

Older stock gauges don't give a very accurate temp reading.
They are mostly "go, or no go", and that's about it.
If you want to get a good temp reading, installing a mechanical gauge is the way to go.
If it's any consolation, I run a 190* thermostat and when my truck is
warmed up, the needle reads where you've described.

Thanks Murph...I think I will look at the gauge and/or (cheap) pull the thermostat and see at what temp does it open.

My concern is that it is not running hot enough to burn fuel efficient.

In this case, block temp is something else to consider. It's much hotter than coolant temp.
Unless you're running into problems, my guess is that you're ok (both coolant and block).
Just make sure your base timing is set correctly, and the advance mechanisms are in working order.

my stock guage works perfectly and it registers barely into the normal range above cold, my theory is that since these engines have cylinder to outside air contact on each coolant jacket. anyways i run a 205° tstat and this is where it runs, so i figure its normal for these engines... i've got about 40k on mine since the new engine and its fine, i run upper cylinder cleaner to prevent carbon buildup from cracking a ring, but it does fine otherwise, 18mpg @70

I don't plan to change anything for a while. Just trying to do some upkeep and man it is good to hear that others have checked it out and I am operating in the normal range. I started to drive my truck on a daily basis lately and it is now getting around 16 mpg.

What is upper cylinder cleaner?

seafoam haha. i run it in through the brake booster vacuum line with the engine running, shut it off, wait 15 mins and fire it back up... give it some gas and voila! no carbon buildup in the combustion chamber
