Running Rough
Running Rough
Hello all,
I have a problem, i recently replaced the following Coil accel super coil, motorsport 9mm wires, accel cap & rotor, accel v-grove plugs and fuel filter. truck ran rough at idle and skipped then truck ran great for about a week now back to same thing. When i changed my plugs, old plugs were wet with fuel. 92 f-150 5.0 Jasper rebuilt motor with 10,000 miles. don't know if it's fuel or electric. so i posted on both boards. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

For a first check pull the vacuum line on your fuel pressure regulator after the truck has been running. If there is any fuel in the vacuum line you probably have a ruptured diaphragm and will need to replace the regulator.
Please clarify the order in which the problems and events happened.

Running Rough
Hey Eric,
Thanks for the reply, I pulled and checked vac. hose to fuel pressure regulator nice and clean.
My truck started running rough, slugish and skipped at idle. So I replaced everything from plugs, wires etc. checked the timeing, the fuel pressure, vac-hoses and replaced any that either leaked or looked bad. Someone told me to run hotter plugs so I went with the Accel v-grove I was told their hot but not to hot so they won't burn up the tops of my pistons. I was also told to stay away from the split-fires. Truck ran awesome for about a week or so. then it started skipping at idle, then started losing power (slugish)and running rough. Thanks for any help!

Hotter plugs? Have you pulled any and looked at them?
You should probably look thru the [link:www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=list&forum=electrical&conf=misc|Ele ctrical Systems/Wiring] Forum for an explanation of sparkplug heat ranges. The heat range has to do with how fast the plug conducts combustion heat away from the tip of the plug back into the head and water jacket. The heat range does not have any effect on the top of your piston. You may have some melted electrodes on some plugs now
If your old plugs were not fouled with heavy oil deposits go back to that heat range.
Kick "someones" but
LOL
I only use a hotter plug on an individual cylinder that needs it. Usually by the time an engine needs hotter plugs all the way around it is rebuild time.
