As of last night my torque converter will only lock up when accelerating when i get up to speed and riding the pedal to matain speed it unlcoks my abs light came on then went away is this a computer problem or do i have to do some tranny work soon i have 190000 on it
Your ABS is also your speed sensor. It's in the rear differential. Check the connections first. It could be as simple as a loose or corroded connection. Look for the easy/cheap fixes first!
if its not a connection problem, i would try changing the speed sensor in the rear end. its cost under $40 right from ford so its not that bad. if the sensor is going bad it will turn on your abs light, mess with shift points and obviously mess with your speedo. but all 3 problems dont necessarily have to be happening for it to be going bad.
it was working fine lastnight then started to do it again thismorning but it was fine again this afternoon but my speedo dose jump around also some times i changed the diff fluid and cleaned it out real good about 5000mi ago. ill stop and pick one up tmrw thank guys
i put in the new sensor the speedo dosent bounce around as much any more but i am still getting the abs light some time right away some times not for a mile or so and the tq converter still is unlocking wheen the speed to pedal ratio is met then you hit the pedal to go faster and itll lock up again.
any one have any other ideas ?? all of the wiring looks good. I am going to pull the dog house over the tranny this weekend and check those wires. but any other suggestions are more than welcome
Well I think that is the way my truck is. Except when it is in OD, then as long as you have your foot on the petal (ie idle validation switch off) then the torque converter is locked. Also, mine only locks when you are really giving it the petal in 2nd and 3rd.
Dog house!...you have a Van? (Posting your vehicle info before asking for help would be nice)
Does it have rear disc brakes? and/or (4WABS) 4 wheel ABS?
Check out the front wheel sensors if the above is true. Clean off the exciter rings, they get full of rust (magnetic). Also check the sensors and wiring.
If not, Rear Drum brakes (RABS):
If the speedo is still bouncing it can trouble with the CC, RABS, Trans shifts and TC lockup.
You may have bumped the RABS exciter ring (next to the ring gear) when you changed the fluid.
Remove the RABS on the rear diff and look through the hole. Turn the driveshaft and watch the exciter ring. It should run straight and true and have no teeth missing.
