My 08 sd scab has a problem with the rear doors hitting the front doors at the top edges. I noticed this problem while washing and waxing i noticed paint missing from the front door at the top. what i found was if you dont slam the back door real tight there wont be adequate space for the front door to close. I always have to check when someone else closes the door because they often slam it tight. This should not be should it? I dont notice the problem on driver side. anyone else with this condition?
The cabs and beds are the same basic structure from the first Super Duty to the current truck. The 08 Super Cab trucks are not unique.
If your doors are misaligned you will have problems with them hitting. You need to determine which door is misaligned and correct it. it sounds like it might be the rear door. Examining the seams where the door lines up with the cab will shed some light on that.
Your truck is probably still under warranty, so I would let Ford sort it out.
If you are not the original owner you might want to consider purchasing a Carfax report to see if this truck has ever been in a collision. If so, you may be seeing the results of a shoddy repair.
My truck has a clean history, no crashes. My doors rear doors you have to slam good as well. IF you don't, they squeek, and you can hear road noise as if a window was cracked. And you really have close them hard, other wise you'll be pulling over the side of the road to do it again. I don't have any paint chipping around the doors though. The tailgate is another story.
Mine is an 05 F 350 SC with an 8' bed...... 86,000 Miles
Some adjustment may be in order. There are lots of adjustments to get it right, and the manufacture of the sheet metal isn't ball bearing perfect to begin with.
thanks guys, yes im the original owner and noticed this a week after purchasing the truck. Im not one to belly-ache the dealerships with trivial stuff especially if i can fix it at home. I know alot of you all are thinking hey its new and under warranty and i paid 35k for the truck. But I just hate the run around and the days lost at the dealership and sometimes they still dont get it right. I was hoping maybe someone in here is a service tech and knows exactly what adjustment i got to make. if not then i will take her back in. thanks guys
Unfortunately there is no "exact adjustement" when it comes to door alignment. You might could start with the upper and lower rear door strikers, or maybe loosen up the main door striker a little.
Personally I would try and let the upper striker loose a little so that the latch is more able to easily pull the door in. Sounds backwards I know, but if it's too tight it won't get onto the second latch with out a lot of force, loosen it up a smidge and it will pull into the second latch easier.
But to be honest with you, I've played around with mine because when I got it they were all loose (900 miles back from wisconsin with the wind howling through the doors!). I have them setup for the rear doors to be shut pretty hard, if not they make noise. You may have to manually adjust the door, meaning bending the door frame itself. this takes some talent and may be better left to a professional if you are not comfortable with it. Pushing the top of the door out may give you the clearance you need. It's fractions of an inch sometimes.
Try and get some pics, you know what they say. I/we might be able to help you make the adjustments better seeing exactly what is going on.
