What is normal interval for cleaning exhaust filter? Mine comes on about every 50 miles and runs about 15 miles when I'm running down the interstate pulling my 16000 lb. 5th wheel RV
next question- After filling up the check engine light came on. I had my trailer hitched up and it was Saturday so I called a Ford dealer and talked to the service manager. I told him that I was traveling and expected to run about 500 miles in the next 2 days. He said that as long as the truck was running OK and the light was yellow and not red it would be OK to drive it this weekend but to have it checked out on Monday. Does this sound right?
regen's vary greatly with each person and what they are doing. To me 50 miles seems a little too early even with 16K on the back end. When towing I usually regen about every 130-150 miles. Same with the length of the regen. Hard to say but about 15 miles seems about right.
I agree with the svc writer, if the truck is running ok, finish up and then take it in. Did you take the fuel cap off and put it back on and make sure it is tight?
When I tow over long distances my regens will happen between 2 and 4 times per tank of fuel which translates to 50 - 100 miles or so.
Only time my engine light came on was when I had an exhaust sensor go bad, truck ran slightly odd but was not really obvious and it was going into regen mode almost constantly, every 20 miles or so. Could be same as your problem.
Things like this is why a lot of us use OBD gauge clusters, Edge Insight or DashDaq are popular choices. They give trouble codes if they come up and monitor the vehicle parameters VERY closely.
You should be fine for a while but hopefully on Monday you can at least get the trouble code and find out what is going on.
I haven't done much towing since the recall. My truck used to regen every 180-300 miles for 13-15 miles. Now, (unloaded) regen is 160-180 miles for 13-15 miles. Seems now matter what type of driving I can't get past 180 miles before a regen.
Pulling my fiver my 08 goes into regen every 120 miles like clockwork for ~10 miles.
I'm every 115 miles for 10 - 15 miles carrying a 4000 lb truck camper (highway speeds). I've noticed the mileage drop on the 'lie o meter' is a lot less during regeneration than before the latest reflash. Sometimes it drops from 10.5 mpg to 10.2 mpg, and then climbs back up before the next regeneration (I reset the meter every tank). Before the flash it would drop 1 or 1.5 mpg after regen - it would regen every 300 miles for 20 minutes.
I have been traveling for the past week pulling our 15k 5th wheel and my regen have been at about 100-120 miles apart. We have been in the mountains a lot and I do go the speed limit on the interstates so I think that may have something to do with them being more frquent than usual. I also have seen the boost at 30-35 during regen when pulling some grades and from what I have read on here thats not normal, so I may have to take it in for a check up when we get back home.

Your truck is acutually normal--hard to beleive but that is exactly how mine runs, as designed. No need to take it in.
Turns out it was a bad sensor!!! Traveling on I80 from Iowa-Illinois state line east to Joliet IL, the "cleaning exhaust filter" light only came on once...which, I believe, is normal! So...we're good to go! Thanks much to all for your input!
