It means something is wrong with the transmission system. A code was stored in the computer's memory. It will stay there for about a month after the last time the light was flashing.
You need to have the code read. The places that read codes free won't have the right tool to read it. You'll need either a good independent shop or a dealer.
Is your speedo acting normally ?.. If is also acting up, it could be your VSS sensor on the top of the rearend... P/N 530780 at Napa.. $11.
Or...Have you overheated your trans lately?
I read the DTC with my chip programmer and it indicated transmission overheated. Fluid looks good. Blinking occurred at end of 10 hour tow ending in Estes Park , CO. . I did not think the pull as that severe. I will be towing a few mt passes in next couple weeks. So what do you think? Is it easier on trans to tow in lowest gear with high engine rpms or in highest gear that the engine will handle.?? Unfortunately mine is just a 4 spd trans including overdrive.
You need to have a trans temp gauge.. and don't exceed 210*.. On my mine, i have noticed the trans temps really jump up if I driving thur town and up and a few hills.. the torque converter is getting a work out, increasing the oil temps.. Do you have a extra trans cooler?
Mine just started doing the same thing yesterday, It was also not shifting out 1st until high RPM or not at all. I just dropped it off at the shop this morning. I'll let you know what they tell me. Hope its not as bad as I think it is.
also, schaeffers tranny fluid will handle heat (e.g. does not heat up as fast) much better than dino, or at least that's what i have heard. what fluid do you have in there. i guess you could also get an oversized tranny pan along with a cooler.
bigol350, what year is yours. that sounds like the dreaded mechanical diode failure (happened to my wifes) but they only used them for a while in 2001 i believe. only fix is rebuiild the whole dang thing.
Hey Greagin, my truck is a 2003 7.3. Just got the word from the ford dealership that the transmission is toast! they gave me two options, a remanufactured one with a 3 year 100,000 miles warranty for right around 3600, or refurbish mine for 28 or 2900 with a 12000 mile warranty. I called around to some transmission shops and they are mostly in the 2200-2800 to fix mine. Good luck guys, hope you have better luck than i did.
