Ignition switch issues!

I done a search but could not find my answer, here is my delima:my switch started sticking yesterday and then it just "locked up" and I can not get it to turn at all. I replaced this switch about 7 or 8 years ago, problem is that it wont turn and it has to be in the on position to push the pin in and remove the assembly, if it wont turn how do I get it out?
I took the bottom piece off the column but that really didn't tell me anything, already tried moving the steering wheel back and forth, tapping on the key while in the ignition, shot it full of lube, etc. but aint nothin workin.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Rob

There is a rod running down the top of the steering column from the key cylinder to the switch under the dash.

Might be able to move the rod and get the key to turn.

If that don't work, the only way in is pull the steering wheel and turn signal switch so you can get to the linkage behind the key cylinder.

Does your steering wheel tilt?
If so that may change things, I have never had one of them apart.

Yea it tilts Dave but it dont look too complicated, I mite have to take the steering wheel off anyways, can I get the wheel off without a puller you think, a couple of bolts and a piece of flatbar looks like it would work. I will try and move the rod in the morning and try to get it to move enough to turn the switch.
Thanks

These trucks are bad prone to ignition switch problems, tilt wheels seem to give a lot more problems than non tilt, sometimes I can pull the wheel hard to the left and get it to turn.

Run a drill into the center of the lock barrel and you will then be able to turn the remains to the on position to get the barrel out.

The following is the procedure is used if the lock cylinder is inoperative.......

Disconnect batteries.
Remove steering wheel.
Using vice grips or channel locks twist the lock cylinder cap until it separates from the lock cylinder.
Using a 3/6 drill, drill down the center of the lock cylinder about 1 3/4 inches until the lock cylinder breaks loose from breakaway base.
Remove lock cylinder and shavings.
Remove retainer, washer, ignition switch and actuator. Thoroughly clean all debris from the casting.
Carefully inspect the lock cylinder housing for damage from above procedure. If damage is evident housing must be replaced.

Installation........

Replace lock cylinder housing if damaged.
Install actuator and ignition switch.
install trim ring and electrical parts.
Install new ignition lock.
Install steering wheel.

Well finally got my switch replaced, I looked up an old friend that is a locksmith and he helped with it. Here is something he knew that might help somebody else with this issue, as AndysFords said these switches are prone to do this, simple way to remove it though and no chance of destroying your column either, the pin that you depress to remove it when it is in the on position, you just drill out the pin as close to the hole size as possible, he screwed in a regular screw in the ingnition where the key goes, took a pair of vise grips and yanked it out, no problem and it only took a few minutes. This pin is hardened but good bits will work no problem. Simple way and I didn't have to remove the steering wheel either.
