2000 7.3 first mods

im new to diesels and i just picked up a 2000 reg cab 2wd. i plan to make it a shortbed lower it a little and crank up the engine a bit. but im wondering whats some easy mods to do first and what kind of power is to be had. i was thinking of a tuner, straight pipe and stacks, injectors, open filter. is there anything that really restricts these trucks.

Your on the right track. I would do the exhaust, 4" turbo back, into the stacks. Intake, the 6637 is inexpensive quick and easy, then guages. These are a must for running any type of aftermarket tuning. As far as tuners stay away from the boxed tuners. Custom tuning is the way to go the 3 major tuners are DP Tuner, Tony Wildman, and PHP. I have a DP and am happy with it. Quite a few others have the PHP and love it as well, same goes for Tony Wildman. Do a little reading here and you will quiclky learn what works and what dosen't from the experiances of all of us here.

Man, only one name comes to mind......
Give Clay a call, I don't think you'll find better pricing, and I KNOW you won't get better customer service. Here you go,

The nice thing about buying from Riffraff is that they carry a full line of products. You don't have to order a tuner from one place, an intake somewhere else, and an exhaust from another place. Check out Riffraff's site or give them a call. You can get everything you need with one stop.

I would suggest the in-tank mods, CCV, and valve body mods as well. Preferably BEFORE the tuner...

no not everything. but there are only a handful of products that will work "good" on our trucks. and he carries them. sure you can pay out the but for a AFE intake, but a 6637 will do just as well, be WAY cheaper and alot easier to install. you can get whatever you want but some things just need to be done in my opinion.

Man, I already read up enough to know that you are over serving in Iraq. I will go easy on you out of respect for what your doing. But there is no reason to come on here with a smart comment like that. You may have a pretty high post count for just joining but most of it is in the song title and story threads. The OP asked questions about mods. I suggested he shop a reputable company where he could get the most proven mods for his truck all from one retailer.

You drive an OBS truck. The mods are different. Your DP is a rotary **** switcher you bought from somewhere or other. Cut me some slack for trying to steer the guy in an easy direction where he is going to get the latest products, the best products, great prices, and outstanding service.

And again, thank you for your service to our country. Keep doing what your doing and God bless.
