Well, while toodalin down the road i hear a knocking/pingin noise. thinking it may be the ac comp. i turn it off, i still hear it...a loud pop sound, huge cloud of white smoke, and i am in the ditch. #4 locked up on me.. sadly i finally had to have the truck put on a roll-back... was able to back it off the bed no problamo, truck sat back down level, and no go again... waiting on compressor to catch up to check the rear brake in there like stevilkinevil said his had done before... once i get it off, i'm sure there will be pics to follow shortly...
sorry, #4 = Right Rear i am still in the habit of numbering the tires... right rear tire is locked up, got the wheel off but there is a heck of a lot of pressure on the very top center of the brake drum, i cant get it off to see whats wrong...... any thoughts on how to get this dang drum off??? using a pry bar i can get any part of it to move an inch or 2 but not on the top...
pedal never changed as far as i could tell, but when it happenedit took about a second for me to go completly in the ditch, locked up going into a curve... Adjustment??? where, how???
i just went and looked, the only things i see on the back of the drum is a hydro line, a bleeder, e-brake line, and a small nut or a stud or something at the very top...
There should be a 1X1/2 inch opening on the bottom center of the brake backing plate, covered by a rubber plug. Pop out the plug and you can turn the adjusting star wheel with a screwdriver. I can never remember if you hook the star wheel and pry up or pry down to loosen the brake pads.
I had a lining come off the shoe one time. It rode around the drum till it wedged it's self into the rear shoe, locked up tight. Jacked up the axle, put into low range and carefully reversed to get it unstuck.
You might have something that came apart and wedged. Springs can get jammed in pretty hard.
I had a drum that had rusted on once. I took a big puller and made some special loooong arms for it and pulled it off. Between that and smacking it with a hammer every little way i got it off in no time. I didnt realize it beforehand but the shoes werent backed off all the way even though i had the adjuster turned as far as i could get it. Im not sure what was going on but i had the shoes trying to come out with the drum. Had to take a screw driver and push them back every little way.
