I was thinking about his last night.

Do you have any up down movement of the hub?

A wheel bearing failure could let the hub drop down, just enough that when you are trying to pull the brake drum the wear ridge at the iside of the shoes is catching on the brake lining.

If you lost a lining and it was wedged between the drum and other shoe that might explain why it locked up, but rolled off the roll back.
But while it was rolling backwards, where and what the lining jambed into is hard to tell.

Are you sure you were going the right way with the adjustment?
There should be no pressure against the adjuster when you are backing it off.

i tried both directions with the adjuster, the teeth broke very quickly.....

if i can find a way to support it in this wet butted yard i may try to ease it foreward and back with the other tire off the ground...

there is no play in the axle so i am takeing it that the bearings are still good...

if i cut it off, it will sit there for probably several months before i can afford the new drum and all the hardware... outta work, very limited budget...

i am going to try to build a "puller" out of angle iron and a bolt to use to push aginst the end of the axle sometime tomorrow...

P.S. remember that this is the truck that sat in the tidal surge durring IKE... the rear end was under salt water for 36-48 hours... i am sure that rust has played a part in this mess...

CAT I know the feeling you had when I tried to get the drum off an Isuzu (Thats not a bad word here is it?). Anyway, I finally got the drum off by using the puller as far as it would go and then used a couple of pry bars till it came off. The shoes were jamed into the drum till everything let go. I ended up getting another drum, springs and everything that broke on the way out. Some times sheer force is the only way especially when you've been working on one drom half the day. Never did figure out what was holding it together. They use a small philips head screw but I had already pulled that out when I started. The other side wasn't any proiblem. I think the word got out after the first one.

With the binding more at the top, I am betting the brake shoes are not where they are supposed to be.

What is holding you on is probably the wear ridge, and that is going to be fun with no way to back the shoes off.

just a quick side note for the isuzu drum. Most imports use the phillips head to keep it in place though it shouldn't matter. It should of had two other bolt holes that lead to the axle flange where the drum sits flush. you have to run two bolts in the holes and continue tightening them til the drum pops loose otherwise they suck getting them off. As far as your truck goes man I agree that maybe the springs have come undone due to rust deteriation. If you have a rather large wear ledge you probably have worn the drum past its limits so you will probably be looking at a new drum anyway. Good luck.

I was shut down by dark and mosquitos last night.. Keep in mind i am using a M12x1.75x50mm bolt to pull with... the bottom is a little over 2" out and the top is still way in.....

I was not sure if my theory would work... kinda ugly aint it...
