Adjusting C6 Intermediate Brake Band

Clean the adjuster threads. Hold the adjuster while you back off the adjuster locknut. Torque the adjuster to exactly 10ft.lbs. (you need an accurate torque wrench). Now, for `71 and up transmissions you need to back off the adjuster exactly 11/2 turns. For `70 and earlier you need to back the adjuster off exactly one turn. Now hold the adjuster and tighten the locknut.
You will need to know if your trans is the original unit or a later replacement.

It is the original unit from a 1970 Motorhome built on a F350 Chassis, I had it rebuilt & mated to a FE 390 & now it's in a 1967 F250 camper Special but I had moved the adjuster & need to reset it,, Thanks for the info Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - allwthrrider's Album: Engine Swap

A trans shop owner told me his guys just do this with an "educated feel" for the tightness, and that the 10lb/1 1/2 turns spec might end up slightly tight for some owners. So just do it and see how you like the shift and re-adjust as desired for a harder or softer shift. Even the pros take a quick test-drive before they call a customer to come get his car.

Unlike them, I have one trany to get 'educated' by LOL
I read in another thread that a man put some kind of shift kit in his and they suggested to tighten it up until the shaft will just barely move by hand, then back it off a turn to turn and a half...
I'm running a larger 10-12K RV. Should the band tightness be still be the same for that or an F150?? I haven't read any changes from one to the other.
Also, I thought the Shifting firmness was determined by the VRV (The PITA-to-adjust-thing-a-majig) on the IP? (going to get a Vacuum gauge and do it that way...)
