My gas cap loose indicator has turned on and won't go out. I have checked the cap several times. Is this a certain dealer warranty repair or maybe something that I can take care of in a few minutes?
It can take several days and quite a bit of driving for the light to go out. If it is still on after several days there is something else wrong. It will be fixed under warranty.
Per the Maintenance and Specifications section of the 2008 Owner Guide (2nd Printing):
If the check fuel cap light or a “check fuel cap” message comes on, the fuel filler cap may not be properly installed. The light or message can come on after several driving events after you’ve refueled your vehicle.
At the next opportunity, safely pull off of the road, remove the fuel filler cap, align the cap properly and reinstall it. The check fuel cap light or “check fuel cap” message may not reset immediately; it may take several driving cycles for the check fuel cap light or “check fuel cap” message to turn off. A driving cycle consists of an engine start-up (after four or more hours with the engine off) followed by city and highway driving.
Continuing to drive with the check fuel cap light or “check fuel cap” message on may cause the check engine light to turn on as well.
If you must replace the fuel filler cap, replace it with a fuel filler cap that is designed for your vehicle. The customer warranty may be void for any damage to the fuel tank or fuel system if the correct genuine Ford or Motorcraft fuel filler cap is not used.
Real bad news. It seems that when my fifth wheel hitch was installed, a hole was drilled completely through something called an EVAP line. The dealer says that the repair will cost me $526.00 + tax on top of the $75.00 that they charged me to troubleshoot the problem. The parts are currently unavailable. The camper dealer says that they want to try and repair the line (metal tubing), and if its not possible, they will pay for the repairs when the parts are available. This line looks to be approx. 5/8" in diameter with a 1/4" hole through it and the entrance side hole is bigger. The hole looks to be dead center through the pipe and in a bend. Do any of you know if a repair to this pipe is possible, or should I demand that they pay the Ford dealer to do the work? If it can be repaired, this would satisfy me as long as its done correctly.
