93 explorer battery cables

I work down at the local automotive parts house. The other night, a customer badly needed a replacement battery. I was unable to loosen the bolts for the battery terminals. It was an odd size and we did not have the proper tools. So my question is.. What size is the bolt on the factory battery terminals? 8 mm was close and a 7 mm was way too small.

What sad comment as to the quality of the parts supplier and the help.

These are US vehicles, did you try 3/8" or 7/16"

They are 5/16" or 8mm originally, but corrosion usually makes them "small Channel Lock" size.

Try a 6 point socket or wrench. 12 Point will slip once the points of the hex corrode.

Needle nose vice grips will work. Hopefully all auto parts stores have them.
