She looks to me as though she would have pretty good sea keeping abilities perhaps not quite as good as a traditional ship. I think that the two outter hulls may be more bouyant than the main hull so she can handle high speed manuevers with greater ease.
She's designed perfectly to reduce a radar signature and to be able to wash herself clean in the (event) of radioactive fallout.
But, speaking as a former submarine sailor, there are only two types of ships:
I used to work on the boomers back in the late 60's - early 70's. Even then they seemed to have a pretty good gig with two crews. The ones I felt sorry for were the fast attack sub crews.
The hydrofoil boat looks pretty neat, but in the case of pirates I would wonder if the response time would be quick enough. For them I'd think that choppers would probably be quicker.
I'm perfectly happy working on a target. At least I get to breathe fresh air!
Not to mention that I'm always at test depth.
I hear ya dude! Once a tin can starts to draw more than 18-20 feet, your in trouble!
Funny you speak of fresh air, I've never not had fesh air to breathe even during extended submerged periods. The days of the WWII pig boats are well behind us.
Check out the USS Freedom LCS1, its a more conventional looking ship. But has the same capabilities. I think the USCG should pick up a few of these to replace the the Hamilton class ships... Not a big fan of our new ships that are rolling out.

I retired five years ago off of the Hamilton and though she rides and looks good, she's still a tired old Vietnam war era Frigate style cutter close to 42 years in age and they all need to go.
Someone needs to ante more big $$$ for the Coast Guard as we are more multi-mission than any other branch of the service.
