Interesting Dealer stats

well, i went to the Ford dealership today and looked at F-150's for my wife, and he gave me a cool sheet that shows just HOW MANY people traded their fairly new trucks on F-150's, in the past 4 months (at their chain of dealers, 4 in total i believe). the following numbers are the year of vehicle and the amount of people:

Chevy Silverado:
2007- 1,368 people avg mileage: 65,000
2008-1,690 people avg mileage: 38,000
2009 -2,210 people avg mileage: 4,000 (lol )

Dodge Ram
2007- 2,652 people avg mileage: 79,500
2008- 600 people avg mileage 42,687

Ford F150
2006 - 6,412 people avg mileage: 98,596
2007 - 5,694 people avg mileage: 86,500
2008 - 4,659 people avg mileage: 29,569

Nissan Titan
2007 - 425 people avg mileage - 56,590
2008 - 280 people avg mileage - 42,980
2009 - 24 people avg mileage - N/A

this was eye opening to me, how many people traded their '09 trucks on an F-150. i thought it was interesting so i thought I'd post it here.

Over 26000 F150's sold at 4 dealers in a couple months? There's something wrong with the picture they painted.

If those numbers are true. But I think not, they may have been numbers for a large sales area. That would be 1685 F-150s per dealership (given they have four) sold per month. Figure average price of 25K (thinking they sold a load of XL) would be $42,125,000.00? Why did we need "Cash for Clunkers"? If four dealerships did that much business around here, they would be giving a party open to the public every two days. I would ask that salesman again about that sheet of paper, if he claims it's true for the company he works for, either get a job there or walk out. Chris

I would question the validity of the data that he gave you. 26,014 F-150s sold by the four dealers. Lets assume that the dealers are open six days a week and selling cars each day. In four months that would mean that they sold ~271 F-150s per day between the four dealers or about 68 F-150s per day per dealership. I find this rather hard to believe.

As context in all this, total Ford F-series trucks (150,250,350 et al) sold in Canada YTD July 2009 was 46,801.

YTd July 2008 was 42,855.

Thanks

Apparently not. According to the local newspaper, GM out sold Ford in the cash for clunkers program by about 3% nationally. It seems that everyone offered better incentives than Ford to entice people to come in.

Latest figures show:

1. Toyota 19.2%
2. GM 17.7
3. Ford 15.0
4. Honda 13.2
5. Chrysler 8.3

GM is higher simply because, amongst all GM brands, they had more nameplates to offer than Ford and Ford was severely constrained in their inventory on the models they did have (Focus, Fusion, Escape). GM had more inventory because they had their junk not selling before the program started.

More incentives by GM vs those offered by Ford is not the reason.

Of course, final number will be different.

That's pretty much what I was thinking but your response was much more eloquent.
