T/C problems

I need some info quick.

Ok, I got a 1990 351/E40D. I'm replacing the Torque converter. The guy that sold me one sent the wrong one. Talking to him, he says the one I got is for a deisel or big block. The only differnce is a slightly lower stall and it mounts to the flywheel with six studs instead of four. He will se4nd me the correct one, but it will take a week. My truck is in pieces and I would like to get it done.

My questions:

I can drill six holes in the flywheel. This is no problem. Infact there is a pilot hole at five of the locations allready. The problem is the sixth location has a weight welded over it. I have a mill and can slot the weight, but how critical is that weight to the smoothness of the engine.

Second, Do you guys think a converter for a deisel will be no problem on a small block.

I need answers by tomarrow morning. Thats when he will send out a new converter.

Thanks

Yes, that weight is critical. If you change it at all you need to rebalance the flex plate back to where it was.

A diesel torque converter is going to have much too low of a stall speed for a 351. The truck will be a dog off the line and you're not going to like it at all.
