is there any way carfax can do a reverse search, and track down the current owner of one of my old cars? I'm interested in finding my old mustang, and seeing if the guy would be willing to sell it, but have no idea where it is. Dont know if its possible but figured I'd try it.
i heard that the guy that started papa john's pizza sold his 71? camaro to start the pizza business up. well when he made it big time he had the car tracked down and bought it.
no idea how he did it though.
Car Fax will not give names it is an invasion of privacy, and if it is an older car that doesn't have a 17 digit VIN that started in the 80s they can't provide any info.

So it looks like your best bet will be to try to contact your insurance company at the time and see if you can get the VIN from them I have done it before you can search to try to find previous owners the current one is never listed at least not that i have found but i searched for an old blazer I had sold and found the person who bought it from me.
But the only reason I was trying to find him was to give him some shop records of what had been done to it before I bought it from my grandpa
Your local DOT not the DMV but the DOT should be able to contact the current owner if it is still in your city. They will not give out the new owners information because of privacy issues and all that fun stuff but if you can find that sweet old lady give her your phone number or email address to give to the person but that all depends on where you live and the people who work at the DOT so no guarantees but it is worth a shot
